The Charter was drafted in June of that year in San Francisco by almost 50 nations in the wake of World War II.  A new era began with the ratification of the treaty and the founding of the UN, when countries aimed to communicate, listen, and act collectively rather than separately.

With almost 200 member states, the UN has now expanded into a worldwide platform that addresses everything from climate change and peacekeeping efforts to human rights and refugee crises.

Take a moment today, school community, to consider what our own lives here at school would look like if we adopted the same mindset - cooperation across divides, utilizing discussion instead of fighting. Join Model UN or learn about them. Let's honor the motion that we are a part of something greater than ourselves and commemorate this worldwide effort's milestone.

United Nations Day is observed on October 24th, the anniversary of the United Nations Charter's formal ratification in 1945.
