On Sunday, October 19, 2025, at approximately 9:30 a.m., eight priceless pieces of jewelry were stolen from the Apollo Gallery at The Louvre Museum in under 7 minutes. Four thieves used an extendable ladder to reach a second-floor balcony and broke through a window to enter the Apollo Gallery in broad daylight, then escaped on scooters. The thieves threatened the guards into cutting the glass of two display cases, one of the three rooms not having CCTV cameras. The French Senate, Natalie Goulet, states they are all disappointed and angry, as it is difficult to understand how it happened so easily. The thieves are being described as seemingly experienced and well prepared as they entered the historic museum calmly and smashed the display cases without anyone being injured throughout the entire heist. Items stolen included a tiara and brooch belonging to Empress Eugénie, an emerald necklace and pair of emerald earrings from Empress Marie Louise, a tiara necklace and single earring belonging to Queen Marie-Amelie, and a brooch known as the “reliquary brooch”. The historic, priceless items are most likely already being melted or broken down, as finding a buyer even in the black market for such items is most likely impossible; it is only a matter of time before the items are irretrievable.
