The football game on Friday, October 17th between Norwell and Rockland was an electric matchup that pointed out the struggles of Norwell. Luckily, Norwell came out on top with a 34-22 victory, but it was the intense back and forth between the teams in the first half that made this a good game to watch.
From the initial kickoff, it was clear that Jack Lucarelli would be the star of the game with two long drives ending in QB rushing touchdowns. However, Rockland fought back with two similar tough drives to tie the game up fourteen to fourteen. Luckily in the second quarter Parker King got a huge tackle stopping a kickoff touchdown, and after a stop we were set us up for a Hail Mary before half time. Keegan O'Hare throws the ball up to six foot six Kole Maguire, but they don’t convert.
Despite the fairly even first half, the second half wasn’t so close. Rockland started with the ball and getting closer to the lead. Connor Woodland swated the ball on 4th and goal. Almost immediately after, Colin Gerheart electrified the crowd with a huge 80 yard touchdown, making one man miss along the way. This was a huge turning point for the Clippers bringing up the “juice” as the players say. Slowly Rockland tried to crawl back, only down one touchdown. Suddenly a bad handoff and the ball popped out. A pig pile of the Norwell defensive lineman grew over the ball and George Bonnevie had it. Eventually Rockland got the ball back with five minutes left in the fourth quarter, but after two plays, threw a pick right into Matt Pantilla’s hands. The game was pretty much over, so Norwell just tried to run out the clock; but like a miracle Jack Lucarelli found a hole and took it to the house for forty yards. With no life left in Rockland, they tried for a comeback and did actually get a huge sixty yard Hail Mary, looking like Matthew Stafford to Calvin Johnson.
In conclusion, this game started extremely slowly with a nonexistent pass game, but the defense turned it around and completely shut down Rockland’s offense. The game MVP obviously should go to Jack Lucarelli with three rushing touchdowns and one in the clutch time. All in all, this huge win brings Norwell to five and two record.
