In only its second year officially running at Norwell High School, the Model United Nations club was given the opportunity to attend NHSMUN, located in the heart of New York City politics. The National High School Model United Nations is a premier, multi-day simulation conference in New York City where students from over 70 countries engage in debate and diplomacy to create, negotiate, and pass resolutions on global issues. In 2026, March 18-21, twenty selected club members represented the countries of Chile and Senegal, and in pairs specialized in distinct committees to advocate for unique policies aimed at improving global crises.

The trip began with an exceptional opening ceremony featuring a 15-piece salsa band, followed by a Q&A session with former Secretary of State and CIA Director Mike Pompe, leading directly into the first committee sessions, where delegates immediately began debating and forming strategic coalitions. Over the course of the next few days, outside of committee sessions, delegates experienced and explored the culture of New York City. After a classic NYC diner breakfast, the group toured the United Nations Headquarters and attended a deeply impactful meeting with representatives from the Senegalese Permanent Mission to the UN. Hearing their perspectives on international leadership and specific insights into students' debate topics was truly the experience of a lifetime. The final day consisted of a closing ceremony and a visit to the Natural History Museum. Overall, it was a whirlwind of learning, meeting people from around the globe, and taking in the marvels of Midtown.

Students’s perspective: Delegate of Senegal under the UNPFII, Amaya Parmar shares how the trip was truly unforgettable and an experience she will carry with her forever.

“Despite the overcrowded elevators and numerous trips up thirty four flights of stairs, I did not regret a second of our trip. I made numerous new friends from around the globe, strengthened current relationships with other members of our club, and have a camera roll full of memories I will never forget.” - Amaya Parmar
