This Thursday, the Clippers JV team barely beat Hanover in a must win end to the season. Giving Norwell an 8-1-1 record, the Clippers had an amazing season capped off by a game winning stop against our biggest Rivals. Rory Merrifield was a big part of this win with a huge pick that saved us the game.

From kickoff Norwell paraded down the field just to be stopped at the twenty five yard line. Taking up almost the rest of the first half, Hanover pounded up the middle with a heavy use of wildcat but on fourth and one yard away from the goal line…Norwell held strong and prevented a touchdown. Capping off the half Norwell ran a hook and ladder to Nate Maggiulli showing our offensive line a little love.

Entering the second half the score remained 0-0 and Hanover started with the ball. Rory Merrifield in the red zone intercepted a horribly executed pop pass which later led to a Clipper victory and him being the MVP of this game. Norwell next drove down the field for an exciting touchdown by Rory. Feeling a comeback, Hanover went back to their specialty, and got in for six…but with the game on the line and 5 minutes left we stopped them on a two point conversion, leading to an 8-6 score. Surprisingly we quickly break another run outside and Rory gets his second touchdown. This gave Hanover one last chance to tie up the game as the score was 14-6 since they stopped our two point conversion. Thirty seconds left in the game from the twenty yard line…Hanover resorts back to the pass and sure enough Drew Vroman catches a game winning pick.

Overall this was a heavily fought game and an amazing way to end the football season. Winning eight straight games, beating our rivals, and leaving our record at 8-1-1. Rory Merrifield was the season MVP. With countless touchdowns, and so many highlight plays. He always showed up in the big movements and was a huge part of the success of this team.
