The Men of Mr. Norwell
Mr. Norwell was a show to behold. Filled with hilarious and talent-filled gentlemen, the night was a huge success. The theatrics began with a slightly provocative, but very entertaining group number decked out in 80s leotards. Next up were the fun-filled interviews where we really got to get a feel for the boys’ personalities. After several corny jokes and a full on production for Seth McGowan’s interview, the boys were brought out one by one, escorted by their person of choice. Nick Abreu getting pushed out in a wheelbarrow by two lovely ladies was definitely a memorable moment. Then came the boys' unforgettable performances. No seriously they are burned into everyone’s brains. Conrad Sigwart made a (reheated Eggo) waffle to the catchy tune of the Mickey Mouse Clubhouse theme song. Simultaneously, he executed the character Goofy’s signature dance. Goofy definitely sums up his act. Afterwards, Cam Achorn wowed the audience with his unknown talent of dancing. His moves grooved through the decades as he danced to a mashup of “Billie Jean”, “Footloose”, “Single Ladies”, and “Say So”. Third to the stage was Alec Pettit who made a questionable looking sandwich that he later heavily encouraged the judges to try. The grimaces on the judge’s faces did not look promising. Robert Lyden twerked his way into the crowd's hearts to “Tik Tok” by Ke$ha. Following that, Seth McGowan left the audience amazed and searching for answers as he pulled off a mystifying magic act that perhaps challenged David Blaine himself. Brett Holland had a tough act to follow, but completely shocked the crowd with a seemingly innocent dance to “Singin’ in the Rain” by Gene Kelly that transitioned into a sultry performance to “Umbrella” by Rihanna, complete with it literally raining on him through the use of several water guns. His theatrical background definitely showed as he performed impressive pirouettes, leaps, and sassy lip syncing. Nick Abreu came next. He sang along to “These Boots Are Made For Walkin’” by Nancy Sinatra as strutted around in a pink cowgirl hat, daisy dukes, and a crop top. He even had a full live band to amp up his singalong. Last, but definitely not least, Trevor Kaighn sang and strummed along to several songs. “Watermelon Sugar” by Harry Styles was a crowd favorite. Some hysterical bloopers kept the crowd laughing while the judges made their final cuts. The top three ended up being Seth, Brett, and Cam. The winner was decided through an applause meter. While the other two boys received plenty of claps and loud whistles, Seth ultimately prevailed with an uproar of cheering. The show was overall a phenomenal production and immense fun. Our town is proud to have Seth McGowan as our very own Mr. Norwell of 2022.
