Thanksgiving Traditions

When somebody mentions Thanksgiving, the first thing that comes to mind is most likely turkey, stuffing, and cranberry sauce. But there is more to the holiday than just the food. It brings time to spend with family and friends and be thankful for all that you have. So this year I encourage you to try something new with your loved ones to celebrate this Thanksgiving, and I suggest some of the following.

1. NHS vs HHS Thanksgiving Game

One great way to spend your Thanksgiving morning is to come support the Norwell High football team in the annual Thanksgiving game against Hanover. All you have to do is come to the high school at 10 am with your friends, family, and team spirit. This is a great way to be outside and show your clipper pride!

2. Turkey Trots

Multiple turkey trots are held on and/or before Thanksgiving. Some being for fundraising and some being just for pleasure, these 5ks are a perfect opportunity to exercise before a good thanksgiving feast.

3. Cook With Your Family

Even though the food isn’t all that Thanksgiving is about, there is always fun to be had in the kitchen, and what's more classic than a good old pumpkin pie? Here's a good recipe you can follow:

Step 1

Preheat the oven to 425 degrees F (220 degrees C).

Step 2

Combine 2 eggs, 16 ounces of pumpkin puree, 14 ounces of sweetened condensed milk, and one teaspoon pumpkin pie spice in a large bowl and mix until combined.

Step 3

Fit premade pie crust into a 9-inch pie dish; pour pumpkin mixture into the crust.

Step 4

Place pie on a baking sheet and bake in the preheated oven for 15 minutes. Reduce heat to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) and bake until filling is set, 35 to 40 minutes.
