Girls High School Tennis Team
Girls tennis had their first match against Rockland, Monday, April 1st. The team won every match in straight sets, signaling an incredibly strong start to the spring season. “We are so excited to start the season off strong with a win,” says junior captain Jane Santos. Girls Varsity’s next match is away next Tuesday, April 9th in East Bridgewater. Girls JV’s next match is home against Hingham Monday April 8th. Please come to support and cheer our teams!
The new season also saw a lot of new players on the girls tennis team. With 29 girls playing this year, the program has a large increase from the previous 19 (mostly seniors) from last year. “It’s exciting to see so many new athletes on the team who are eager to learn tennis”, says coach Marianne McElwee. A lot of the new players haven't played tennis in a while, or are just beginning, meaning a robust JV team and a large concentration on just getting people on the court. Tennis practices have been going well, and many players feel that the team is a fun and friendly environment.
The starting lineup for the first match had Joy D'Souza as first singles, Vivian Zayotti as second singles, Ally Leaver as third singles, Isabelle Bousquet and Jane Santos as first doubles, and Cameron Vroman and Stella Chan as second doubles. It may change throughout the season as players challenge each other and move up or down the ladder.
