Soccer Season Recap

In the summer is where it all started. When school got out in the middle of June, the captains of the soccer team discussed having captains practice which is where the captains of the boys varsity soccer team lead a practice for whoever is interested in playing high school soccer. The Captains practices consisted of running a lap around the turf, stretching, a tournament style game and lastly splitting into 5 teams and playing against each other for the rest of practice. These practices happened occasionally throughout the summer about 2-3 days a week. We had 5 try-out days in late August where we went to the middle school in the morning and did a variety of drills each day that included passing, dribbling, shooting, defending, and attacking. After tryouts they told us what team we made and I was a swing player. A swing player means that I will be playing for the freshmen team and receive opportunities to play on the JV team. Soon after tryouts, we had a scrimmage and got to see what positions each of us would play. I played center midfielder for the freshmen team which is the player that controls the middle of the field and distributes the soccer ball out to any players that are open on the side of the field. For the JV team I played right midfield which is the person that makes runs up the field to support the offense to try and score goals, but gets back and helps the midfield defend when the other team is attacking. I had a successful soccer season for both teams and we won many games and had very few losses. I can’t wait to play next season!
