Soccer in the Spring
It was a rainy Sunday afternoon and I had a soccer tournament, the last game of the tournament. Everyone was stressed because it was a big game –it was THE game to win the tournament against the undefeated team that was 3-0 and we were 2-1. During warmups, the rain drops hit harder, the wind blew stronger, and the cold numbed our noses and toes; so we knew it would be a tough game to win especially against a good team. After the 30 minute warm-up, we took the field ready to try to win the game and win the tournament. My team started off slow and let the other team go up 2-0 in the first half even though we had many chances that we should have capitalized on to tie the game. Though our coach was disappointed with our performance in the first half, he gave us a pep talk to try to boost our morale which later worked because we started to move the ball around more and make more chances stopping and the other team when they would go on the attack. Towards the end of the first half in the last 10 minutes, we scored our first goal of the game which made the other team more stressed because we were down one with time left to tie the game to win the tournament and go home happy. But the other team started to play really solid defense stopping all of the chances we would create making it tough to try to score. In the last few minutes we had a shot on net, and it went wide which was probably our last chance of the game. Seconds later the ref blew his whistle signaling the end of the game. The other team jumped with joy and my team was disappointed with our performance because we knew we could play better and beat that team. The loss taught us that you can’t win every game and sometimes you will lose and you shouldn’t be sad that you lost you should reflect back on what you did wrong so you can fix it.
