Poetry Out Loud

Poetry Out Loud is a national poem reciting contest across the United States, the US Virgin Islands, American Samoa, and Guam. Although it can be hard to memorize a poem and speak in front of others, it is rewarding as confidence and creativity are increased. Last year, one of our own Norwell High School students was the Massachusetts poetry out Loud Champion and it would be so exciting if another Norwell High School Student won again. Although the competition will still be virtual this year, there will still be opportunities to watch these videos. Finally, here are some tips for a great poem recitation including good posture, having confidence, and projecting into the audience. One of the contestants said, “I tried to choose poems that were meaningful and talked about important topics. I wanted to convey emotion in my recitation and I feel like anger and sadness are very easy to express so I found poems that possessed a passionate tone”. I am sure that many others are excited to see what poems are chosen! See Ms. Link for more information.
