Norwell Public Library featuring African-American Film Festival

Do you enjoy watching movies? Do you want to learn more about the African-American experience? Do you want to get out of your house during the bland month of February and do something interesting? If you answered yes to any of these questions, then the Norwell Public Library’s African-American Film Festival is the event for you! The Norwell Public Library recently announced that they will be showing a movie about the African-American experience every Wednesday in February. Each movie will be played in the meeting room at the Norwell Library and will start at 6 pm. The first screening is this upcoming Wednesday, February 1, and will be the movie Till. Till is based on a true story, and follows Mamie Till-Bradley as she fights for justice after her son is murdered. This movie includes a dinner beforehand, which starts at 5:30, and the library encourages attendees to bring something for the meal, either homemade or bought. The second movie of the event will be shown on February 8, and is the award winning biographical sports drama King Richard. King Richard stars Will Smith, and is about the lives of world-renowned tennis players, Serena and Venus Williams. This movie will not include a dinner, but all attendees will receive complimentary popcorn. On the third Wednesday, February 15, the library will play Farewell Amore, which follows an Angolan immigrant as he meets his daughter and wife for the first time after seventeen years apart. Similar to the first movie, there will be a dinner before Farwell Amore that starts at 5:30. The library asks participants to bring a side dish for the event. The final Wednesday of the festival will be on February 22, and will show Just Mercy. In this drama based on a true story, Michael B. Jordan depicts lawyer Bryan Stevenson and his battle for justice. Just Mercy is not preceded by a dinner, but it will include popcorn for the guests. Each showing has a limited number of spots, so if any of the above movies pique your interest, go to the Norwell Public Library website and register as soon as possible! The Norwell Public Library has hosted many amazing movie nights before, and their month-long African-American Film Festival is sure to be a huge success.
