Mu Alpha Theta

Dear Norwell High School Students,

Mu Alpha Theta, known as the National High School and Two-Year College Mathematics Honor Society, is a welcoming space for students with a genuine passion for mathematics. At Norwell High School, Mu Alpha Theta functions as a recognition program, meaning they identify students who show exceptional talent in mathematics. It provides a chance to participate in the Log 1 contest, a national competition focused on demonstrating students' problem-solving skills in math.

Although the application deadline passed on December 15th, there still might be an opportunity for some late submissions. I strongly encourage all of the students who missed the initial deadline but are still interested in applying to talk with Mrs. Plassmann to talk about the possibility of submitting their applications.

To qualify for a full membership in Mu Alpha Theta, the student must be enrolled in Honors Trigonometry or a more advanced math course, actively participate in math competitions (NEML, AMC, Olympiad, Math Team, etc.), and meet specific GPA criteria. Being a member requires a minimum GPA of 3.0 overall and 3.5 specifically in math related classes. Additionally, students enrolled in Honors Algebra 2 or Honors Geometry can join as associate members, creating the road for a potential full membership in the future. It's important to note that

freshmen and sophomores are only eligible for associate membership until they fulfill the required course criteria. We open this invitation to all interested students that are considering joining Mu Alpha Theta at Norwell High School, an environment that encourages mathematical excellence and camaraderie among peers who share similar interests.
