Look Out For LEAD!
LEAD is an up and coming club at Norwell High School that you should know about. LEAD, run by Sasha Christensen, Leila Kielhorn, Hannah Leff, and Caroline Scalzulli, stands for Leadership, Empowerment, Advocacy, and Determination. Founded in 2019 by Abigail Leff, LEAD aims to provide a safe space for discussion about gender disparities and other social issues. When interviewed, member Sasha said, “How did a club like this not already exist?” “We don’t have a space in our school that talks about this kind of stuff,” added Hannah Leff. Although the club started out mainly focusing on inspiring young girls, it now wants to become coed and motivate all genders. A typical meeting begins with breaking into small groups and discussing the assigned topic, then the groups reconvene and have a large group discussion. Last week’s topic was “Unconscious Biases and Stereotypes''. You don’t have to worry about doing any prep work beforehand as this club’s focus is more on its members’ authentic opinions and passions rather than homework. This group really is a space to talk not to stress. LEAD’s overall goal is to teach people how to empower themselves and how to feel comfortable hosting these discussions outside of the club. If you fear that you’ve missed out on this great opportunity, don’t! LEAD accepts new people year-round. Contact Mrs. Prescott or any of the leaders listed above if you are interested in finding out more.
