Girls Varsity Basketball
The Norwell Girls Varsity Basketball team is back and better than ever! Starting off their season 7-1 they are fighting to get back into the state finals and claim the title of state champions that they almost received last year. The starters this season are Senior Captain Reagan Dowd, Senior Captain Maddie Oliver, Senior Captain Paige Maguire, Senior Holly Pantilla and one sophomore Alex Cassidy. They put their best foot forward with great shooters and outstanding defensive players to start off games. They started off their season with a tough game against sandwich but pulled out a win in the end. Shortly after going 2-1 in Florida over the holidays with their only loss of the season so far. This year there is one freshman on the team, Adrienne Dowd, sister of senior captain Reagan Dowd and freshman varsity swing Amelia Dowd. I got a chance to ask her how she felt being a freshman that plays. She responded with “It’s definitely intimidating, but it’s fun being on the court and practicing with the upperclassmen.” Adrienne gets a lot of playing time with her immaculate rebounding shown as she got 12 rebounds against Middlebourgh securing them a easy win. Sophomore Tess Murray and junior Heidi Warren come in hot to the game giving them even more momentum with Tess’s awesome defense and Heidi’s height. Check Clipper athletics instagram to find the results and STATs of each game. This team is definitely in the running for playoffs and sure to make it far in the tournament if they don’t claim the title of state champions!
