Football!
Football is known to be one of the most intense and dangerous sports in the world. Football players work so hard that they are willing to die for the game, and they are aware of the risks they take to play the game they love. Players have endured surgeries, broken bones, aches and have sacrificed their body from their time in the NFL, and that is why there is so much pride that comes from achieving their goals and understanding that they survived something only few men can prosper from. On January 2, Damar Hamlin, who is a Buffalo Bills safety, tragically suffered from cardiac arrest after collapsing on the field. Immediate emotions were flooded onto the turf as players hurried into a huddle surrounding Hamlin. The crowd became inaudible, including the opposing team, and all the fans showed empathy for Damar. The brotherhood derived from this is chilling and powerful. Emotions of the peers, commentators and nation moves me because it shows us that we all have so much more in common than we give ourselves credit for. Background means nothing when it comes to the fighting for one’s life. Fans from around the world expressed their bonding power of the sport with donations to Hamlin Foundation that gained 6.2 million dollars and is still growing. The league-wide affection for Damar grew and leading up to kickoff, NFL stadiums held a moment of silence and teams met at midfield for a moment of prayer in recognition of Hamlin's ongoing recovery. Although football is the athletes’ life, they were able to withhold it for a few moments and show their compassion for the opposing team, which indicates humanity. The toughest men playing the toughest sport, crying for their teammates and consoling each other depicts that the players all support one another and have each other’s back.
