The Norwell Boys' Basketball team has completed their season with an impressive undefeated record (25-0), coming to a conclusion with a dramatic state championship win. The championship match was played at Tsongas Arena in Lovell against Old Rochester Regional High School, on March 14. After the intense matchup, Norwell came up triumphant 64-61 in overtime.
Senior Ronan Coffey was a clear MVP, not only throughout his skills, but his ability to remain calm under pressure and act as a leader. With only seconds left in the game, the Clippers were down and needed a final push. Coffey was able to sink a three, tying the game and giving the Clippers an opportunity to display their ability to overcome. In overtime, he scored 8 out of the 10 points that brought the Clippers to victory, and over the course of the entire game scored 30 points, including six three pointers. When asked about his performance, Coffey remarked that he was just "doing [his] job". Other notable players include the seniors Nick Adams, Will Bostrom, and Ollie Rice. Sophomore Jack Luccarelli had a stellar performance as well. Together, the team was a powerhouse.
The entire team gave everything they had on that court, and the energy in the arena was palpable. This championship win was the first in Norwell Boy's Basketball, and the first in Coach Willis' 31-year-long coaching career. As student Meredith Reed remarked, "it felt electric to be with everyone and share this win together". The win was a testament to the results of hard work of the team throughout the whole season, and it went beyond the court.
