NorWELL for South Sudan’s Tuesday Night Live

On Tuesday February 4th, NorWELL for South Sudan held their second comedy night fundraiser. The night was hosted by our very own Mr. Bechtel and featured many other familiar faculty members and students. To begin the show, the AP Chemistry students and Ms. Lozan faced off against the AP Lit students and Ms. Link in a very competitive game of Family Feud. The AP Chemistry kids put up a good fight, but AP Lit came away with the win. Then, the audience had the pleasure of seeing Tik Tok videos up on the big screen of some of their favorite teachers dancing and lip syncing to popular songs. Two of the most notable Tik Tok performances were Mr. Willis, Officer Phelps, and Mrs. Dole shaking their hips to “Stupid Boy Think that I Need Him” and the dynamic English teacher duo of Mr. Lang and Mr. Belmore with their perfect choreography to “Hey Now.” Next came the hilarious duo of Mary Dole and Henry Mossiat with our “Weekend Update,” which included theories about what caused the recent fire drill (AKA Magno “#revengeweek”) and our many available and nutritious food options at fourth lunch. Then, Manning MacAvoy and Kristi Vierra thanked Dito for being the most unbiased history teacher on the planet, Mr. Brusso for watching anime instead of his classes, Mr. Goniatis for telling us to do hard resets on our cracked iPad screens, and many more. Next came the ever so embarrassing “Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader Videos.” Throughout the past few months, students have been randomly approached in the halls and recorded being asked basic questions about the world. After watching that, we can make the conclusion that the majority of Norwell High School students are actually not smarter than a fifth grader. Then, Ellen Degeneres’s “Five Second Rule” came to the stage. With several rounds and tough competition, Gillian Hahn was crowned the winner. The most controversial game of the night was when some of our NHS art students faced off with Mr. Kitchen, Mr. Britton, Ms. Blumberg, and Señora Adams in Norwell Pictionary. The talented artists tackled the challenge of drawing and guessing words like pencil, cat, and snake, while our team of teachers gave their best shot at drawing their terms like “Schoology,” “Turnitin.com,” and “Mr. Lang’s Vest.” To the teacher’s dismay, they did end up losing, and the most competitive of the group, Señora Adams, made sure to let everyone know that she thought it was very unfair and was very distraught over it. To finish the show, some of our very own seniors did an energetic and fun filled flashmob up on stage. After a night of so much fun and games, NorWELL for South Sudan reminded the audience of what the club does and what the impact of the money raised that night can do for the people of South Sudan. NorWELL for South Sudan is a club run by Mrs. Johnston and students and their goal is to raise money to build water wells in South Sudan. A well in a South Sudanese village makes such a great impact on that community, not only are they getting clean water that is not full of disease, but people do not have to walk many hours per day to get their water. After such a successful night, the club raised over $2000, which gives the club enough money to build our second well in South Sudan!
