Clipper Leadership
The Clipper Leadership Academy is a great, but relatively new club that Norwell High School offers. This club was started by Mr. Marani and Mrs. Greenberg last year, and they are the advisors to the club as well. This is the second year that the club has run, and it has many members already. First year members fill out modules or forms on different topics every month. These modules are related to different leadership strategies or topics like doing the right thing or having empathy for others. The second year members do not have to complete more modules after they complete the ones needed for the initial first year. There is a meeting every month that normally lasts 30-45 minutes, and there are options to come after or before school, so as many members can attend as possible. This year, an executive board of 14 juniors and seniors has been nominated to work behind the scenes and run the monthly meetings rather than Mr. Marani and Mrs. Greenberg.
This month’s meeting featured a kahoot and group discussions on doing the right thing and being honest. There was a big focus on integrity and one's reputation as well. We talked in groups about certain situations and how we would react to them, as well as what the right and wrong things to do would be. Personally, this is my second year being a member of this club. This club is a good way to learn extra leadership skills and interact with students from every grade, as all grades can participate. The modules I completed last year were helpful, short and related to the lessons. Overall, Clipper Leadership is a great club to get involved in if you are looking for or currently hold a leadership opportunity, or even just want to learn how to be a better, more empathetic leader.
