Homecoming Rally
As spirit week came to an end, many students were upset about the closure of an exciting week of costumes and theme days, and others looked forward to the upcoming Homecoming dance. The last day of the eventful week was the classic Blue and Gold day, in which the entire school was decked out in different outfits made of the Norwell colors. On this day, classes were shortened, horns were blown, and one of the best events of the week, the homecoming rally, commenced. As the underclassmen and juniors entered the gym after walking through a tunnel of seniors with their loud horns, every student was quick to settle down so that the show could begin. Some introductory speeches were quickly made as everyone looks at each grade’s wall painting and hopes that theirs is the best. This year, the rally began with the singing of the national anthem by the Clipnotes, a job well done, and a fun routine by the cheer team, that set the upbeat atmosphere of spirit and celebration. Then, the raffles using spirit day tickets were drawn, and a few lucky winners were chosen.
Finally, the competitions began. It all started with the water chugging contest, in which two representatives from each grade had to chug three full bottles of water as fast as they could in hopes of victory. This competition was an addition to previous years’ contests, and it was impressive to observe. Another new competition this year was a spikeball tournament, with multiple representatives from each grade battling it out for the win. There was also a relay race, with parts that included jump roping, balloon popping, eating fruit-by-the-foot, and transporting water without hands! Lastly came the classics: musical chairs and dodgeball. Of course it was entertaining to watch the grades compete, but the most exciting contest to watch was when the staff played against the students. All of these competitions were executed in good spirits, and each grade enjoyed cheering on their classmates.
Once the rally was complete, every student filed out of the gym as music blasted in the background, satisfied with their Friday and excited for the weekend and the Homecoming dance. Overall, the rally was a great success for the Norwell High School Clippers.
