Global Citizenship Program

This fall, I adopted a program from Hingham High School called the Global Citizenship Program. The goal of the program is to enforce student’s understanding of global issues, and how to adapt and efficiently navigate the highly connected world in which we live in today. In Hingham, about 200 members discuss global issues and different cultures monthly, mixed in with volunteer work and fun activities involving cooking or language. I took my passion of understanding global issues and helping people and shared it with like-minded people to create Norwell High’s own program. Our club, although small, is beginning to expand and build traction. Weekly meetings entail fundraising projects, ideas for cultural nights and plans to work on establishing our own set of rules and guidelines.

Our current project is focused on the severe drought in Cape Town, where they are less than a month away from completely running out of potable water. We have been going to every school event and have put up donation sites at various businesses to attempt to raise money to go towards collecting clean drinking water for the citizens of Cape Town. A local business has decided that they will match whatever we make off of this fundraiser, making our first fundraiser a big success.

My co-president, Mia Bilezikian, and I have put lots of time and effort into creating a club we are passionate about and want to share the information we learn to anyone who is interested. We want to allow students at Norwell High School to be as globally aware as possible in order to be successful in the real world.
