Mr. Norwell 2018

This past Monday night, students gathered in the auditorium to watch the annual Mr. Norwell event, put on by the senior class student government. The night began with all 9 contestants, dressed in leggings and white tank tops, performing a dance to a compilation of various pop songs, including “Hips Don’t Lie” by Shakira and “Partition” by Beyonce. The hosts, Mr. Goniatis and Grace Wenger, were then introduced, as well as the three judges, Anna Norton, Stephanie Prescott and Anna Wilson. Contestants then came out in their formal wear, courtesy of Men’s Warehouse, with their escorts ranging from their moms to their guitars.

Individual talents were then performed by each of the contestants. Some of these talents included a poem recitation by Robert Scott in a baby costume, a gymnastics routine by Charlie O’Neil, a Quidditch game played by Andrew Corbett and a performance by ‘Zen Master’ Tim Lynch. Some of the musical acts of the night included Baker Hurley playing some John Mayer on his guitar and Emile Zahr lip syncing Britney Spears. The audience was shocked by Steven O’Driscoll’s ranch dressing ad, Jacob Barowitz ‘stressed calm classroom’ and Jake Flaherty shaving his head on stage.

After a brief intermission, contestants returned for the live interview segment. All nine contestants were asked a random question, such as “What is you favorite sauce?” or “What is your favorite yoga pose? Please demonstrate.” The judges were then given time to deliberate and chose their final three, while the audience was shown a blooper video. Steven O’Driscoll, Jacob Barowitz and Baker Hurley were named the final three contestants and the audience was left to vote for their favorite via Kahoot. The night ended with a drumroll and Jacob Barowitz being crowned 2018’s Mr. Norwell. Overall the event was a huge success for the senior class and was a lot of fun to organize and watch.
