Holiday Fun Fest

The annual Holiday Fun Fest at Norwell High School is a festive event put on by Norwell’s Volunteer Corps to raise money for the Make-A-Wish Foundation while spreading some holiday cheer! The Holiday Fun Fest is held in the school cafeteria with many tables set up for different holiday themed crafts and exciting games targeted for young children around the ages of three to ten. Every year the members of the Volunteer Corps Club work hard to change the cafeteria into a winter wonderland with holiday decorations and this year even a cotton candy machine, which proved to be a popular attraction. In order to raise money the club charges three dollars per ticket to attend the event, and a wide variety of gift baskets to win in the raffle. The raffle raises a large portion of the money made and donated every year. It is a wonderful way to kick of the season of giving by helping the Make-A-Wish Foundation, allowing children with life threatening diseases to have exactly what is on their Christmas list this year!

Interview of Ms. Blumberg

Q: How was this event created?

“There was an event in place before I started running it but it wasn’t really like this. We decided to have an event that would benefit Make-A-Wish because those kids can’t always come out to events like this. So we are putting it on for the kids in our town who can come in order to help those kids who can’t make it to something like this.”

Q: What do you love most about the event?

“I love seeing our students from the highschool help out and spread the cheer at this time of year, I love seeing the young children come and have a blast, and finally I love the fact that all the money goes to Make-A-Wish and can help someone who isn’t feeling great for the holidays.”

Q: What other events are you looking forward to with volunteer club?

“This is our biggest event, so I’m looking forward to this event next year.”

Emma: “I personally like the letter writing station, because whenever we drop the letters off at Macy’s they donate money to Make A Wish.”

Q: What station are you guys working at?

Maeve: “We’re working at the goodie bag station. And we help kids decorate their goodie bags and they can put stickers on them and color them with markers.”

Emma: “I really love seeing the kids and giving back to the community that did this for me when I was young.”

Maeve: “I think that it's really important to help the kids and at that age I really would have liked something like this.”
