Lexi's Monthly Musical Review: October

Hey everyone! This month I will be reviewing the hottest ticket on Broadway, Hamilton! I am so excited to review this! So without further adieu, let's get on with the show….

Synopsis/Background: The musical starts with an introduction of Alexander Hamilton, a founding father and the man who created the national bank. We learn that he was orphaned at the age of 13 and was born in the West Indies (modern day Puerto Rico). At the age of 19, Alexander gets a scholarship to King's College and meets Aaron Burr, Marquis de Lafayette, John Laurens, and Hercules Mulligan, who would become his friends. We fast forward to Alexander’s military career as well as his meeting with Elizabeth Schuyler, who were later married. A few years later, he has an affair with a woman named Maria Reynolds. Elizabeth and Alexander reconcile, but Alexander is killed in a duel with Aaron Burr. The show ends with everyone who was apart of Alexander’s life saying what they did after his death. The curtain closes with Eliza reuniting with Alexander in heaven.

Review:

This is an AMAZING show! The songs are great, the story is well done, and the characters are amazing. It’s important to history and it will be in the history books someday because this show features a mostly minority cast. The cast is also very interactive with their fans which is also a great thing. Along with digital videos uploaded to YouTube, the show does a mini performance and a lottery called the Ham 4 Ham Show and Lottery. There is also a PBS documentary called Hamilton’s America that will premier on October 21st, 2016 at 9 PM. The show is a must see!

Recommended Age Group: 11 and older
