Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? (And Other Concerns) By Mindy Kaling Book Review
Mindy Kaling’s New York Time’s Bestselling autobiographical book, Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? (And Other Concerns) was one of the funniest, most honestly entertaining books I have read in a long time. Kaling was a writer and actress for The Office, and the creator and star of the Mindy Project. In an amusing and ingratiatingly friendly manner, Kaling writes of life as an unathletic child and her popularity at Dartmouth, to her struggles to find a job in New York and, finally, her experience as a writer in Hollywood. By the end of the book, Mindy Kaling, through her casual tone and the astonishingly relatable way she tells her story, seems less like the talented, distant comedian writing an autobiography and more like a hilarious best friend relating an anecdote. One of my personal favorite aspects of the book was her hilarious lists. Because of reading this book, I have basically just decided that Mindy Kaling is my favorite famous person ever, which, although a bit of an exaggeration, is the reaction I feel her talented writing deserves. Also, the fact that she grew up near us in Boston, and is a comedy nerd like me (and I’m sure some of you others out there), is just the icing on the cake. If you haven’t yet read Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? (And Other Concerns), do yourself a favor and check it out (our school library has a copy)!
