News Clip: What's next?
What happens when you leave NHS? What’s next? You will probably go to college, trade school, or jump right into the workforce. Either way, now is a good time to start thinking about what careers might interest you and which professions will keep you engaged, motivated, and happy.
When I was in high school, I was unsure of what I would study in college and pursue as a career. For me, teaching was not the obvious choice right away, and exposure to other careers eventually led me to where I am today. Having the opportunity to directly interact with people who work in various professions would have benefited me in high school. To learn--what do people in advertising do? What does an average day for an engineer look like? What does the director of a museum study in college?
Here’s where you are lucky! The guidance department and some wonderful parent volunteers have planned a career fair for you to attend. Think science fair, but at each table is an adult volunteer with a wealth of knowledge about his or her profession and journey. They are there to answer your questions and provide information in the hopes of providing some direction.
Who’s going to be there? If you remember, guidance provided a list of sample careers, including doctors, lawyers, police, fireman, etc. I need to put a plug in for my great friends that have volunteered their time to talk to you - Director of Catering Sales at the Museum of Fine Arts, Founder (designer, engineer, and entrepreneur) of NoBull (www.nobullproject.com), and Principal and Technical Architect at Web App Solution (www.webappsolution.com).
Please go!! You all can benefit...and if that doesn’t convince you, your attendance will grant you a free tardy as well as entrance into a raffle for a gift card (Eating Estab, Chipotle, Extreme Pita, Starbucks, and more).
Wednesday, March 16th, 7:00-8:30
See you there :)
